Our MSc Speech and Language Therapy (Pre-Registration) course is an accelerated, two-year postgraduate course aimed at graduates who wish to prepare to practise as a registered speech and language therapist. Our course content reflects the values of the NHS constitution and combines theory and practical sessions over 45 weeks per year.

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) help everyone from infants to aging adults overcome communication disorders. Some SLPs work with children in schools to improve their articulation, language, fluency, or voice. Others provide acute care in hospitals for patients with neurological conditions. Still others assist very young children recovering from cleft palates, feeding disorders, or autism spectrum diagnoses.

The Master's Degree in Language and Speech Pathologies enables a multidisciplinary approach to the main language and speech disorders that present neurological, psychoaffective or cognitive etiologies. Students delve into the diagnosis and treatment strategies for each pathology and study aspects related to the anatomy, physiology and dynamics of the central and peripheral nervous system, as well as their relationship with pathological manifestations at the behavioral level.

The MSc in Speech and Language Therapy (Professional Qualification) is offered over two years full-time as a route to qualification for professional practice for applicants who have already attained a degree. The program has approval from the Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists.

The Masters degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is designed to provide the student with sufficient depth and breadth of academic study and clinical practicum for a professional career in the diagnosis and management of individuals with speech and language disorders.

About the Graduate Communication Disorders MS Program Ranked among the top graduate programs of its kind nationwide by U.S. News & World Report, Emerson College’s on-campus Communication Disorders MS program will provide you with the academic and hands-on clinical experience to make an impact on the lives of people living with speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders. Housed in the School of Communication’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, the course of study offers you the opportunity to apply developmental, cognitive, psychosocial, behavioral, and medical models to the assessment and treatment of a broad range of communication delays and disorders. The program is designed to fulfill the requirements of the American Speech-Language-Hearing (ASHA) Certification.

The course in Speech Therapy aims to train health professionals in possession of the technical and practical skills appropriate to the best professional practice.

This course is intended for speech pathologists, or others who have completed a relevant undergraduate degree and wish to pursue a career that includes research or gain a competitive advantage in their career by completing an additional postgraduate qualification. Students gain research skills and expertise in their area of research interest, and demonstrate their outstanding academic ability and commitment to their field through the completion of the degree.

The study cycle aims to create a Masters of excellence in Speech therapy. The principal aim is to develop advanced competencies in the assessment and intervention of children and adults with speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders. The master has three paths:

Bachelors degree in Speech-Language Pathology or relevant honours degree

Speech and language therapists (SLTs) enjoy a rewarding, specialist career working with parents, teachers, carers, nurses, doctors and occupational therapists. Almost one in five experience communication difficulties and this is where SLTs support people to develop, restore, or give strategies to build communication. SLTs also support people who struggle to eat, drink or swallow. SLTs work in hospitals, schools, community clinics and specialist units. You will learn core skills in topics such as linguistics, phonetics, science, psychology, and speech and language pathology. You will also develop your clinical and professional skills through practical placements and modules that cover counselling and professional skills.

The Bachelor of Health Science/Master of Speech and Language Therapy is a four-year program that will qualify you to work as a speech pathologist within the Australian healthcare system. The course is undertaken online, with intensive on-campus residentials and placements providing the clinical learning. Upon graduating from the course you will be equipped to work in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, aged care facilities, community health clinics schools or disability organisations assisting people to achieve their highest quality of life at work, home and socially; irrespective of age, disability or illness.

Audiology, speech-language pathology, deaf education, and interpreting are concerned with many issues related to speech, hearing, and language. Professionals in deaf education and interpreting fields are devoted to providing educational services and community-related services to children and adults who communicate in American Sign Language and/or other communication modalities.
