Introduction
The MHS curriculum offers comprehensive training in academic, clinical, and research foundations/components of language, speech, and hearing (including physiological, acoustic, perceptual, linguistic, cognitive, and social processes) and in the diagnosis and treatment of the spectrum of communication disorders. A thesis option is available for students interested in research and/or further study toward the Doctor of Philosophy degree. A combined MHS/PhD program also is available.
The MHS degree in SLHS typically takes students two years to complete if their baccalaureate degree is speech, language and hearing sciences (or communication sciences and disorders). A minimum of 30 additional credit/semester hours of prerequisite coursework is required if a student’s undergraduate degree is in a different field of study. MHS graduates are required to meet all academic and clinical requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) awarded by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
