Introduction
Biomedical Engineering (BME) is an interdisciplinary program involving the application of engineering principles and design concepts in Biology and Medicine for healthcare purposes, such as diagnosis, monitoring, and therapy of diseases. The primary mission of our BME program is to cultivate students with cross-disciplinary expertise in biology, medicine, and engineering fields. To train them to conduct research through the knowledge of molecular biology, biochemistry, biomechanics, informatics, nanotechnology, instrumentation, and material engineering. With the well-designed study scheme of this program, students are expected to be well-educated to achieve the forefront of leadership in the fields of biomedical engineering.
The BME program at CUHK-Shenzhen is dedicated to assembling a world-class faculty group for conducting cutting-edge research in key biomedical areas. With the existing strengths in material engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and robotics at CUHK-Shenzhen, this program aims to emphasize the developments of biomaterials and nanotechnology, biomedical imaging and signal processing, biosensors and bioinstrumentation, biomedical robotics, and biomedical informatics. In the interdisciplinary academic environment, students can interact with multi-disciplinary professors and even with clinicians to gain prospective insights into human healthcare and disease therapy and to translate their innovative ideas or cutting-edge studies to benefit industry, medicine and ultimately patients. This program serves as a solid foundation in cross-disciplinary learning, creative thinking, practical problem-solving skills, and a keen sense of the emerging biotechnologies and their future developments.
