Introduction
Medical simulation provides the means to deliver a standardized curriculum through safe, innovative, and effective methods. As a student in the medical simulation program, you will learn how to integrate the medical curriculum into simulations in a way that helps students master the subject through varying degrees of difficulty, clinical variations, and individualized learning.
PCOM's medical simulation certificate program is available at our Suwanee, GA, or Philadelphia, PA locations and can be completed online for those with access to an approved simulation center. Online students will be required to make three visits to the Suwanee campus during the program (once each term).
Certificate programs in medical simulation
The Certificate of Graduate Study (CGS) program requires a bachelor's degree for admission.
The Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS) program requires a master's degree for admission. This certificate is also available as part of the curriculum offered in the Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences medical simulation concentration program.
Both options include the same coursework.
This program is designed for individuals interested in a career in medical simulation. Students in this program will learn to train medical students and other healthcare providers by designing, implementing, running, and assessing medical simulations.
During the program, students will also:
Obtain certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) through the American Heart Association.
Receive training in ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support).
Complete the National Registry Emergency Medicine Technician Basic EMT course.
Develop 30 simulations individually, including two interprofessional simulations.
Run approximately 2,000 simulations.
Become certified as "Train the Trainers in Stop the Bleed."
Students must complete eight courses (24 credits) to obtain a medical simulation certificate.
Upon completing this program, students will have medical simulation skills, including educational learning theories, simulation building, debriefing techniques, and more. Upon completing the program, students will have the knowledge and skills to serve as lab coordinators, managers, or directors of simulation centers.
