Most counseling programs offer students a variety of psychology and clinical classes to choose from. Some typical topics include theories and approaches to counseling, research methods, group facilitation skills, ethical issues, counseling families and couples, and trauma counseling.

A master’s degree is an advanced unit of study that can be earned in about two years after students have completed a bachelor’s degree. Depending on the school, earning an MA can be done in person, online, or even part time, which is ideal for busy students.

Part-time learning allows one to obtain a degree or qualification even if one cannot attend school on a full-time basis. One can learn at one's own pace, gradually accumulating credits that count towards a final qualification.
